He runs the Mennill Sound Analysis Laboratory at University of Windsor, where he and his research team use a field-based approach to study wild animals in Canada and Costa Rica. Dan has helped to pioneer new technologies for bioacoustic field studies of birds, including interactive playback, multi-speaker playback, and multi-channel microphone array recording. Dan has published more than 150 papers in scientific journals, and supervised more than 40 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers. He is a Fellow of the American Ornithological Society, a member of the Society of Canadian Ornithologists and the Animal Behaviour Society, and he serves as the Associate Dean of Science for Research and Graduate Studies at University of Windsor.
