What Equipment Is Needed To Perform Localization/Triangulation?

Performing triangulation of sound sources based on time-of-arrival distances requires multiple recorders precisely synchronized to the same clock, as small differences in time can translate to large inaccuracies in distance. The Song Meter SM4TS is an SM4 recorder modified to allow this kind of synchronization with a dedicated, external GPS receiver.

The standard SM4 and the SM4BAT FS/ZC cannot synchronize their internal clocks with GPS time. The standard GPS model used with these recorders (product code: SM4GPS), is only used for setting the recorder's clock and location once, at the beginning of a deployment. It cannot maintain synchronization with the precision needed for triangulation
